This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of a strategic partnership between China and Brazil. As the two largest developing countries in the eastern and western hemispheres, China and Pakistan are striving to open up a new era and future of China Pakistan relations under the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, better benefiting the people of both countries, and making greater contributions to regional and even global peace and development.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in August 1974, China and Pakistan have always respected each other, treated each other equally, and cooperated for mutual benefit. The bilateral relationship has continued to develop steadily and forward. In 1993, Brazil became the first major developing country to establish a strategic partnership with China; In 2012, the relationship between the two countries was upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership. In April 2023, Brazilian President Lula paid a state visit to China, and the two sides issued a joint statement on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Against the backdrop of accelerated adjustment of the global political and economic landscape, the current China Pakistan relationship has transcended bilateral scope, and its "global, strategic, and global" impact is increasingly prominent, becoming an important force on the international stage to promote the unity and development of developing countries.
Lula stated that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Pakistan and China is solid and stable. Pakistan looks forward to close high-level exchanges with China, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, enhancing coordination and cooperation on global governance system reform and major international and regional issues, and further promoting the strong development of bilateral relations.
In terms of economic and trade cooperation, Brazil is the first Latin American country to break through 100 billion US dollars in trade with China. China has maintained Brazil's position as the largest trading partner and export market for many years, and China's cumulative investment in Brazil has reached nearly 100 billion US dollars. In recent years, apart from traditional cooperation fields such as agriculture, animal husbandry, energy and mining, scientific and technological innovation cooperation has become a new highlight of China Pakistan relations.
Lula stated that deepening cooperation between Pakistan and China will help promote the process of "re industrialization" in Pakistan. In April of this year, during Lula's visit to China, China and Pakistan signed multiple bilateral cooperation documents in areas such as trade and investment, digital economy, technological innovation, information and communication, poverty reduction, quarantine, aerospace, etc.
The expansion and deepening of China Pakistan economic and trade relations have driven cooperation between the two sides in the field of currency and finance. The Brazilian Central Bank announced on March 31st that the Chinese yuan has surpassed the euro as the country's second largest international reserve currency. That month, Brazil also reached an agreement with China to use local currency for settlement in bilateral trade and financing activities. Lula recently proposed to use RMB for settlement in trade between Brazil and Argentina.
As political and economic relations continue to expand and deepen, China and Pakistan have also built more and more bridges for cultural exchanges. The two countries vigorously promote exchanges between scientific research, educational institutions, and international students, and further promote Chinese language teaching in Brazil and Portuguese language teaching in Brazil in China. In March of this year, the first Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Latin America officially began teaching in the state of Goas, Brazil; In June, 12 Brazilian students were awarded Chinese government scholarships.
Looking ahead, there is enormous potential for cooperation between China and Pakistan, and the prospects for bilateral relations are bright.
