Chinese Wu Opera Performance Appears in Ethiopia - events

In order to promote cultural exchange between China and Africa, the Zhejiang Wu Opera Art Research Institute held a special performance on the 8th and 9th, respectively, at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, and the National Theatre of Ethiopia, with a total of over a thousand people attending.
In the two performance activities, the Zhejiang Wu Opera Art Research Institute performed the entire drama "Three Beats of White Bone Essence", the foldable drama "Three Chakou", "Lift the Flower sedan chair", "Lv Bu Test the Horse", as well as the suona solo "Da Zao" and the Hui Hu solo "Hui Diao", winning applause from the on-site audience.
At the performance at the AU headquarters, Hu Changchun, head of the Chinese Mission to the AU, said that the performance coincided with the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity, the predecessor of the African Union. China is willing to work closely with Africa as always, under the guidance of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation and the initiative of jointly building the "the Belt and Road", to strengthen all-round exchanges and mutual learning and enhance people to people connections.
African Union Commission member Mu Changjia stated that cultural exchanges between Africa and China have a long history, and this kind of exchange exudes new charm today. The African Union will work with China to further strengthen cooperation, promote exchanges, and continuously achieve new results.
At the performance event at the National Theatre of Ethiopia, Shen Qinmin, the temporary representative of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, said that this performance is a vivid example of China Ethiopia strengthening cultural exchanges and promoting mutual learning of civilizations, which will create a good atmosphere for the in-depth development of bilateral relations. The President of the National Theatre of Ethiopia, Mania Zewal, encourages both sides to use their unique advantages to engage in more exchanges.
Wu Opera, commonly known as "Jinhua Opera", is one of the local opera genres in Zhejiang Province. In 2008, it was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
