The Relationship between Sound Quality and Materials

(1) Mid low cone:
① Paper cone: The bass sound is rich and deep, often used in mid to low frequencies:
Advantages: Natural tone, low cost, good rigidity, light material, high sensitivity;
Disadvantages: Poor moisture resistance, easy deformation, and low surface hardness.
② Plastic cone: Bextene (polystyrene);
③ PP cone:
Advantages: It has extremely high damping characteristics, is not affected by moisture, is light and hard, can be made into many sizes and shapes, and has excellent physical and sound characteristics;
Disadvantages: It is not easy to adhere and has a "plastic" odor in the sound.
④ Metal cone: mostly used for bass, mostly made of magnesium and aluminum (and their alloys) materials, which are heavy, strong, and have poor high-frequency performance.
⑤ Silk and linen cone:
Advantages: Soft texture, excellent performance in soft and light music;
Disadvantage: Lack of strength and shock.

⑥ Fiberglass, bulletproof cloth (Kevlar): also known as woven cone:
Advantages: Good sound quality, good stability, and low environmental impact;
Disadvantages: The manufacturing process is complex and the cost is high.

⑦ Other plastics: TPX, HD-A, HD-I, Neoflex (focal), Bextene.
(2) Diaphragm (high pitched):
① Organic film: generally used for high pitched coaxial speakers, it can withstand low power.
② Metal film: High pitched and clear, performing better than silk film at high power.
③ Silk film: The best sound quality, especially at low power.
3) Frame:
Function: Keep the mechanical structure stable and provide accurate movement for the diaphragm
① Iron frame: Low price.
② Steel frame: made of high pressure, with low cost and high hardness, commonly used for bass speakers.
③ Aluminum magnesium alloy die-casting: Good durability, anti resonance, beautiful appearance, and high cost.
(4) Voice coil:
① Tweeter:
Aluminum wire: lightweight, with excellent transient response.
Copper wire: Strong load-bearing capacity and high durability.
② Medium and low frequencies:
Copper wire: With high load-bearing capacity and good dynamic performance, it is mostly circular in shape and also has hexagonal and rectangular shapes. The latter two can increase heat dissipation efficiency and improve power carrying capacity.
(5) Voice coil holder:
Aluminum sheet: Good heat dissipation, lightweight, and not easily deformed.
KLSV epoxy resin board: waterproof and insulated, with good load-bearing capacity.
(6) Magnet:
① Ferrite: Large volume, low price, versatile.
② Neodymium magnet: Magnetic properties are 7 times that of ferrite, but it is unstable and easily magnetized.
③ Strontium magnetic: high efficiency, small size, mostly used for high pitched sound.
(7) Damper: also known as a spider,
① Cotton fabric: has good stability, is less affected by temperature, is cheap, but has poor smoothness.
② Polyimide fiber: has good rigidity, strong tear resistance, good moisture resistance, is not easily deformed, has little temperature effect, and is expensive.
③NOMEX: an excellent high-temperature and flame-retardant fiber invented and put into use by DuPont in the 1960s. It is resistant to most acids and has good stability to alkalis. It is widely used in military and electrical industries and is an H-grade excellent insulation material.
