A senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the country will showcase in the near future a new hypersonic ballistic missile capable of penetrating all anti-aircraft missile systems and targeting enemy anti-missile systems, Iran's English-language Press TV reported Tuesday.
Amirali Hajizadeh, commander of the air force of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, said on Monday that the hypersonic missile had passed tests and would soon be unveiled. The hypersonic missile has a high speed (around Mach 12-13) and can fly inside and outside the Earth's atmosphere at at least five times the speed of sound, making it almost impossible to intercept.
Hajizadeh revealed the development of the hypersonic ballistic missile as early as November 2022. Iran, while under sanctions for decades, has become self-sufficient in designing and building different types of military equipment, including missiles.
