After five years, F1 has returned to Shanghai, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the F1 China station, which is scorching with heat. So, we also want to do some articles on F1, such as giving F1 a try with a sound system.
As a "land aircraft", the extremely lightweight body layout of F1 is absolutely not allowed to be "stained" by non performance parts. In addition, the wind resistance at ultra-high speeds and the design of the sunroof, let's first take a look at the difficulties of equipping F1 with sound.

The essence of sound is vibration. Due to the current use of carbon fiber reinforced resin based composite (CFRP) in the cockpit of F1, which is lightweight and structurally strong, its high modulus determines that the vibration frequency will be relatively high.
The higher natural frequency determines that carbon fiber composite materials have strong shock absorption ability, which can effectively avoid the resonance phenomenon of F1 under high-speed driving.
However, at the same time, if speakers are installed inside the car, sound waves will also be "purified". In addition, there is no glass or other space reflection in the car. The first difficulty of installing an F1 audio system is to design a high-power speaker that can fully drive the air and directly drive the ears.

But that's not enough. The medium for sound transmission is air. When driving at high speed in F1, the air in front of the cabin will form a vortex, and the difference in air velocity will completely change the propagation performance of sound waves inside the cabin.
So, perhaps arranging a front windshield would give the car a good performance.

In addition, although there are many buttons on the F1 steering wheel, selecting a song seems a bit difficult. This "car interface" makes it difficult to listen to music. Fortunately, there are a large number of wireless modules in the car, so listening to streaming should be effortless.
Directly dubbing on F1 sounds like a fantasy, let alone the driver wearing a helmet. But, like me, there seems to be another audio brand - Baohua Weijian.
We put in a lot of effort and found an Aston Martin Vantage Roadster F1 Edition, which is a road racing car based on the F1 safety car. It can be said that it is the latest addition to F1, especially the convertible version, which can better restore the state of F1 with a sunroof.

Today, we will not test the performance of this vehicle, but rather see if Baohua Weijian can crack the false proposition of "equipping F1 with audio".
The cockpit of this car naturally cannot be compared to F1, as there are significant differences in material and aerodynamic performance.
However, Baohua Weijian's approach to solving the problem is similar. As usual, we set up the equipment and started testing. (Different from previous audio tests, this test project will be adjusted and not scored due to differences in vehicle layout.)

This is the mid range speaker located on the center console, which is also the highest speaker in the entire vehicle. It is almost at the same height as the high-frequency speakers on both sides, and when paired with the lower seating position of the vehicle, it is about the height of the driver's neck, which is also similar to the F1 level up effect.
This layout makes sound transmission more direct, and similarly, the high pitched speakers on both sides of the corners behind the seat have a similar layout.

Another highly targeted design is the two enclosed bass speakers located at the feet, which are air speakers without sound covers.
Similar technologies have also been applied in some brands, utilizing the principle of resonance to more directly unleash the power of speakers and bring a stronger bass feel.

Of course, multiple speakers are also designed behind the seats and above and below the doors. For a two door, two seat convertible model, 10 speakers is still a bit luxurious.
But because it reduces sound reflection, the transmission of sound is more direct.

In the decoding testing phase, we first use the top three test files, which include a hidden encoding format Easter egg file, a 7.1.4 file that exceeds the decoding specifications, and a high sampling rate masterband.
In actual testing, Vantage Roadster can easily play master tape files and even decode Easter egg files smoothly, greatly exceeding expectations. This demonstrates the skill of Baohua Weijian.
Due to the convertible design, this car is not equipped with a sky channel, so the 7.1.4 file cannot be played naturally.

Specifically, based on the test results, except for some deficiencies in the high pitched part, the sound quality exhibited by other frequency bands is superior, with strong bass ability and excellent rebound force. The mid-range part is finely controlled and perfectly executed.
From the static data of the vehicle alone, Baohua Weijian has found a better audio solution for this type of vehicle body.


It is worth mentioning that the sound insulation of the vehicle is also very excellent. In an environment of 40.7 decibels, the pink noise test was played at 70 decibels inside the car, while the test outside the car was only 47.5 decibels. However, this may also be related to the soft top structure of the vehicle.

Let's take a look at the positioning performance of the sound field again. After all, the Vantage Roadster has a small space, and with the support of so many speakers, it's hard to imagine that this power is only 640W.
In terms of positioning, the 7.1 channel positioning is relatively accurate, and the overall sound leans towards the normal elevation range of the head front and back.

As for the ecological aspect, it's not what this car is considering. The configuration of a USB flash drive and Bluetooth is already very reasonable and in line with the positioning of an F1 model.
However, the control mode that continues from the Mercedes Benz Command system is too retro, and it can only be said that the sound system is not the soul of this car.
Of course, all of the above are just the static performance of this car. At high speeds, it is Baohua Weijian's answer sheet.
Due to limitations in road safety and testing equipment, we conducted a round of testing on the highway with the convertible open. The conclusion we reached was that if F1 had added a sound system, perhaps the number of laps in the race would double, because listening to music racing on the track was truly enjoyable!
