At the centre of a loudspeaker is a magnet. It is a permanent magnet - meaning it has a fixed polarity - that interacts with the electromagnet produced in the speaker's voice coil. Magnets of opposite polarity attract each other. Magnets with the same polarity repel each other. The polarity of the voice coil changes back and forth with the alternating current fed into the voice coil. It is the attraction and repulsion of the voice coil to the permanent magnet that creates the movement of the speaker and produces the sound waves. Choosing the right material for the speaker magnets and other internal components is an important part of the speaker design process. When it comes to magnets, the most important things to consider are their strength, size and price.

Q:1.Do all speakers use magnets?
A:Every audio speaker uses permanent magnets whether the speaker is in your car, in your stereo, your earphones or your smartphone. Permanent magnets provide the force that makes the component in the speaker that creates the sound, moves.
Q:2.How do magnets affect sound?
A:The magnet creates an opposing magnetic field that creates vibrations. The vibrations are what we hear through the speaker. The larger the magnet, the larger the opposing magnetic field. In other words, the larger the magnet, the louder the speaker.
Q:3.Does a stronger magnet make a better speaker?
A:The bigger the magnet, the stronger the potential driving force of the speaker (assuming the magnetic strength of the magnet is constant). Small magnets are for small speakers and produce, by nature, "weaker sound", while bigger magnets make bigger speakers capable of producing louder sound.
Q:4.What is the purpose of a double magnet in a speaker?
A:A single magnet speaker features a solitary permanent magnet at the rear, while a double magnet speaker incorporates two magnets, typically arranged in a sandwich-like configuration, providing increased magnetic strength and improved control over the speaker's movement for enhanced performance.
