Speaker basics
The terms 2-way to 5-way determine how many different drivers are built into the speaker. Each built-in independent speaker works at a different frequency, the more speakers, the narrower the frequency it must use.
No matter how many drivers are built-in, different speakers can handle bass, midrange, and treble. Of course, if you want a true bass line, you need to equip your car with a separate subwoofer.
All speakers have at least two drivers: woofer and tweeter. As the range expands, there are more drivers for speakers, but the standard is woofer and tweeter.
Many people think that more drivers in a speaker means that it must have the best sound, but this is not necessarily true. If so, then the 5-way speaker must be the best-selling product, isn't it?
Of course, the more drivers in the speaker, each individual driver can work in a shorter frequency range. But it is more related to the material quality of the speaker, the crossover and the components that determine the sound quality.
Remember, each driver is more costly for the manufacturer. Therefore, a 2-way speaker that costs almost the same as a 4-way or 5-way speaker will either sound better or have a longer lifespan because of the better materials and components used.
