Description
Speakers have two types of dampers: mechanical and electronic. The degree of mechanical damping is determined by the suspension of the loudspeaker and the air loading on the cone.
This cannot be determined except by complex measurements. Electronic damping is determined by the resistive load on the loudspeaker, which is the sum of the resistance of the loudspeaker cable and the output resistance of the amplifier.
This can be determined by a simple calculation. The electrical damping or damping factor is calculated by dividing the resistance of the loudspeaker coil by the sum of the resistance of the loudspeaker cable and the output impedance of the amplifier.
